New Delafield campus will expand eating disorders services; slated for spring opening
Town of Summit, Wisc. – The high demand for high-quality residential Eating Disorder treatment has prompted officials at Rogers Memorial Hospital to expand the center at the nonprofit behavioral health hospital which turned 100-years-old this year.
"We’re so excited to have a chance to expand our successful eating disorders program. This is a very serious disorder in today’s society, with one of the highest mortality rates of any mental illness,” Dr. Ted Weltzin, director of eating disorder programs at Rogers Memorial Hospital said. “By expanding our program, we’re going to be able to help many more people who deserve and really need the kind of treatment we offer. Our strong outcomes prove that on a daily basis.”
Paul Mueller, Chief Operating Officer at Rogers Memorial said hospital officials are still working with the state of Wisconsin and the city of Delafield to iron out the details but the location will serve patients with obsessive-compulsive disorder and eating disorders in a residential program setting.
The new facility will house 24 beds, 16 for patients with eating disorders, focusing on those with co-occurring anxiety disorders, and eight beds for patients with obsessive- compulsive disorder and other anxiety disorders.
The site was a former retirement home and is located a few miles northwest of downtown Delafield on Highway B (Oakwood Drive) in a private, secluded setting nestled in about 9 acres of prairie and woodlands. Mueller said as the programs take off in Delafield he anticipates the need to add about a dozen new staff members to accommodate the patient to staff ratio.
The Eating Disorder Center at Rogers Memorial Hospital offers intensive residential treatment for individuals with severe eating disorders. The primary goals of treatment are to achieve nutritional stability, to identify and correct errors in thinking (such as body image distortions and perfectionism), and to address other obstacles to maintaining recovery.
While other behavioral healthcare providers have downsized or shut their doors, Rogers Memorial Hospital continues to thrive, growing from one location to four, over the past 15 years, serving roughly 6,000 patients in 2006.
“We offer quality clinical services, in a cost effective manner with a long history of providing services locally, regionally and nationally,” Mueller said. “Our mission as a nonprofit provider helps sustain our organization as an important resource to the mental healthcare community.”
Plans are also underway to expand the Herrington Recovery Center, a residential chemical dependency program. Additionally, a $7 million addition to Rogers Memorial Hospital’s West Allis campus is slated to finish in June 2008.

The Rogers Memorial Hospital Foundation raised almost $170,000 at it’s recent centennial gala.
"We can’t thank everyone enough," Marion Heinz, Director of the foundation said. "The outcome was incredible. The money raised will go a long way in helping people overcome mental health concerns and start living a better quality of life."
The black tie event was held Saturday, Nov. 3, at the Renaissance Place in downtown Milwaukee and featured silent and live auctions, a gourmet dinner, and dancing to the big band sounds of the Nick Contorno Orchestra.
"Because we were observing our 100th anniversary, it was an incredibly special year for Rogers Memorial and our foundation.," Heinz said. "Each year we find more and more people willing to share their experiences and kindness."
The Rogers Memorial Hospital foundation supports patient continuation care scholarships for patients who need more treatment time but whose resources are at an end. All proceeds from the gala provide direct support to patients and programs at Rogers Memorial Hospital.
