West Allis, Wis. – Alexander M. Scharko, MD, a triple board-certified psychiatrist who specializes in the treatment of children and adolescents, has joined the child and adolescent services medical staff at Rogers Memorial Hospital – Milwaukee.
He is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in general psychiatry, child and adolescent psychiatry and psychosomatic medicine.

Dr. Scharko is a member of the American Psychiatric Association, the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and the Academy of Psychosomatic Medicine. He is a clinical faculty member in the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the Medical College of Wisconsin.

His research interests include pediatric behavior dysregulation disorders, mood disorders, psychotic disorders and psychiatric medication adverse effects in children and adolescents.

Dr. Scharko is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Medicine and Public Health. His postdoctoral work included a research fellowship in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore. He completed his residency in psychiatry along with his clinical fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Medicine and Public Health.

He has numerous awards, honors, and publications and frequently gives presentations to professional and academic audiences on the topic of child and adolescent psychiatry.

Oconomowoc, Wis. – A local psychiatrist has been recognized by the America Medical Association (AMA) Foundation as one of the nation’s finest.

Jerry L. Halverson, MD, a board-certified psychiatrist and medical director of adult services at Rogers Memorial Hospital in Oconomowoc, was honored at the March 1 AMA Foundation Excellence in Medicine Awards. The event recognizes physicians who “exemplify the medical profession’s highest values” through outstanding community and peer leadership.

Halverson was selected for the award because of his efforts organizing opportunities for other physicians to give to their communities. The award includes sponsored leadership development training to strengthen the efforts of recipients toward advancing health care in America.

Halverson holds leadership positions within professional organizations both locally and nationally, including the AMA, the Wisconsin Medical Society, the American Psychiatric Association and the Wisconsin Psychiatric Association.
He has spoken extensively on mental health disorders and advocacy efforts to academic, legislative and community audiences.

Halverson was also recently selected for a 2010 “Forward under Forty” award by the University of Wisconsin Alumni Association.

Oconomowoc, Wis. – Rogers Memorial Hospital and the Rogers Behavioral Health System has published their “Report to the Community.”

The 32-page document reports on recent accomplishments and the future prospects of the organization’s four key corporations, including the hospital, the Rogers Memorial Hospital Foundation,  the Rogers Center for Research and Training, and Rogers Partners in Behavioral Health.

Update: The Washington Governor’s office has issued a release.

The State of Washington has named Susan N. Dreyfus as Secretary of Department of Social and Health Services.  She will be leaving her post as the Executive Vice President for Strategy for the Rogers Behavioral Health System in Oconomowoc, Wis.

“Under Susan’s leadership, we have forged a strategic plan for the development of the Rogers Behavioral Health System and its key corporations,” said Rogers Memorial Hospital president and CEO, David L. Moulthrop. “She was a key player in developing the governance for those key corporations and the system as a whole.”

“We’re very excited for her,” said W. Carl Templar, Chair of the Rogers Behavioral Health System board. We’re saddened by the loss of her to the organization, but grateful to have been able to benefit from her year and a half of service. We look forward to continuing to work with her in the future in new, collaborative adventures.”

Town of Summit, Wisc. – Kirsten Haglund, 2008 Miss America, will speak at the Rogers Memorial Hospital Foundation’s 2008 Annual Benefit.

During her presentation, Haglund will demonstrate how she has helped raise awareness of the pervasive 

and deadly nature of eating disorders. She will also reflect on her own personal recovery from an eating disorder. 

In the United States, nearly 10 million females and 1 million males are fighting a life and  death battle with an eating disorder like anorexia or bulimia. Millions more are struggling with binge eating disorder.

The eating disorders platform correlates with Rogers Memorial’s highly-specialized, intensive eating disorders treatment services. Rogers Memorial offers a full continuum of eating disorders treatment for males, females, adolescents and adults with co-occurring anxiety disorders and employs over 70 eating disorders professionals in its treatment programs.

The Rogers Memorial Hospital Foundation’s 2008 annual benefit will be held on November 8, 2008 at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Milwaukee. 

The 2008 Annual Benefit will also include a cocktail reception, dinner, silent and live auctions, the presentation of the foundation’s annual “Spirit of Giving” award.  Proceeds from this event will be used to support the patients and programs of Rogers Memorial Hospital. Town of Summit –  On July 19, Rogers Memorial Hospital and Oconomowoc’s Wisconsin Harley-Davidson will team up again to raise money for the Rogers Memorial Hospital Foundation via the Second Annual Loud Pipes for Quiet Care Mystery Ride.

Registration for the event begins at 10 a.m. on July 19 at Hal’s Harley-Davidson, 1925 S. Moorland Road,  New Berlin, and will end around 3 p.m. at Wisconsin Harley-Davidson, 1280 Blue Ribbon Drive, Oconomowoc. After a brief ceremony to award ride and raffle prizes, Wisconsin Harley-Davidson will host the Fourth Annual Cooney Cruise Bike and Classic Car Show, as well as a Oconomowoc Chamber of Commerce Street Dance, featuring live music, food, and beverages.

The first 300 registered riders will receive a ride pin and a commemorative gift.  The self-directed ride will cover about 100 miles through scenic southeastern Wisconsin.
