Rogers Memorial Hospital provides intensive, structured chemical dependency treatment services for adults in all stages of addiction to alcohol and/or other drugs.
Led by board-certified physicians who specialize in addiction medicine, our experienced treatment team of chemical dependency professionals use evidence-based therapies to help patients achieve abstinence and practice principles of recovery.
Our treatment approach uses components of the 12-step program to educate patients about the disease of addiction and build a foundation for recovery.
We invite patients, families and referring treatment team members to contribute to developing the individual's treatment plan. Family members are an important part of our treatment approach.
Prior to admission, prospective patients complete a free screening that is reviewed by the program's attending physician to determine what level of care will meet the needs of each individual.
There are three levels of chemical dependency services offered at Rogers Memorial Hospital.
The Herrington Recovery Center provides long-term intensive treatment in a confidential, home-like environment. This treatment is intended for individuals who are medically stable, but have been unable to achieve recovery in a short-term or low-intensity treatment program. A comprehensive five-day evaluation is available for professionals referred by licensing boards, regulatory agencies and other privileging organizations.
The center's new "green" facility is built to meet certification for the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards. The natural surrounding and comfortable settings blend together, creating a warm and supportive atmosphere.
Day or evening treatment provides a critical link from inpatient care, a supplement to outpatient therapy, or in some cases an alternative to inpatient treatment. This level of care is designed to provide treatment to individuals with chemical dependency in a safe and supportive setting, while maintaining involvement with home, family, work or school activities. Treatment is available in the day or the evening to fit each individual's needs. Length of involvement is determined by the length of time required to complete treatment goals.
Short-term inpatient detoxification and stabilization services are specifically designed to meet the medical issues associated with withdrawal from alcohol or other drugs. Inpatient treatment also may be necessary for individuals with co-existing mental health concerns. Individuals unique needs and situations impact their length of stay.
Components of the 12-step program provide the framework to educate patients about addictive illness and begin the recovery process. After discharge, all patients are encouraged to continue participation in 12-step and support group meetings to continue their recovery.
Our treatment approach consists of three phases:
In tandem to this 12-step program framework, we educate patients and families on the nature of addiction, recovery principles, relapse prevention, craving, withdrawal confrontation and how to support someone in recovery. All patients are encouraged to have their families attend family-focused treatment sessions.
Our clinical staff is led by a board-certified addictionologist, a physician specializing in addiction medicine.
Jay Kasner, MD, is the medical director of chemical dependency services at Rogers Memorial Hospital-Milwaukee and the attending physician for The Herrington Recovery Center.
Other members of each program's treatment team may include: a psychiatrist, master's-level certified substance abuse counselors, certified clinical supervisor, registered nurse, registered dietitian, master's-level clinical and experiential therapists, and residential counselors.
Upon admission, patients meet individually with members of the treatment team to complete a comprehensive evaluation that is used to develop a personalized plan.
During treatment, patients participate in a weekly session with the physician as well as group-based therapies facilitated by other members of the treatment team.
If the patient has an outpatient therapist and primary care provider, our staff, with patient consent, provides these providers with ongoing written and/or oral communication regarding patient progress and the coordination of continuing care services.
